Vaping in Canada

Review of Smoant LADON MOD

In this review, I will tell you about a well-built box mod from Smoant with a leather back and a slightly incomprehensible name LADON.

Not long ago, we could see a review of a tank with a similar name Ladon AIO Tank, and in this article I will tell you about the LADON MOD battery block from the Ladon KIT.

Smoant LADON MOD packaging

LADON MOD is sold in a black cardboard box without any identification marks (except for the manufacturer’s logos), and in order for it to be somehow noticed on the shelves, a “dust jacket” is put on top. On the front side there is a photo of the mod in the current color, names and main operating modes. canadian vaping On the back side there is a little more information: the delivery set, information about the manufacturer, wishes to keep away from children, a sticker with an authenticity verification code and several certificate icons. It is gratifying that there is not a word anywhere about the harm of nicotine and other non-obvious nonsense about addiction and recognition as a poison in certain regions of the USA. These inscriptions are appropriate on liquids, but when they are applied to everything that is somehow connected with vaping, I personally have a sharp attack of Spanish shame.

What’s in the box

The delivery set, frankly speaking, is not very impressive: a fairly detailed instruction manual in English and Chinese, a card showing internal quality control, a reminder about the importance of using batteries with undamaged insulation and current output, an empty warranty card, a charging cable, and the mod itself. They could have put a piece of microfiber, or even better, a brush with hard bristles, given the decor of the case, it would have been very useful here.

The charging cable is not the longest (50 centimeters), but it is red and branded, quite soft, and also Type-C on one side. It’s a pity that the second side is a regular USB 2.0, i.e. you can’t even dream of any fast charging.

Smoant Ladon Mod. Design

The appearance and exterior of the LADON mod evoke thoughts about the heyday of vaping, when mods tried to be primarily functional, and only then chased after “whistles, farts and other LGBT lights.” Strict rectangular shapes with small bevels on the edges (hello, comfortable grip), small decorative ribs on the side ends, moderate decoration of the front panel in the form of a bent mesh and a leather (eco-leather, of course – read artificial, but pleasant to the touch) insert on the battery compartment cover with the lonely name of the mod. The screen is small and monochrome, the controls are highlighted in color and nothing superfluous – this is what awaits you when you first get acquainted with the Ladon mod. The choice of zinc alloy for the main material adds monumentality and weight to the device, and the proportional dimensions make it visually slimmer. The only thing that will cause a slight surprise is the format of the batteries used, given the dimensions it seems that 21700 are used here, but no, “only” 18650. If you look closely at the metal of the case, you can see that it is slightly rough, with thin vertical “scratches”, as if polished with a large grain, and covered with varnish on top. The front mesh is similar to that in old radios and some modern Bluetooth speakers, it looks nice, but will irresistibly collect dust from pockets and dirt from hands.

Ladon Mod. Personal impressions

What I liked

A capacious and pleasant grip and a nice design

Simple controls and menu

Charging with a current of 2 A (with the appropriate power supply)

Located for evaporators with a diameter of 25 mm

Type-C

What is simply good

Built-in balancer for batteries

Thermal control

Protection against reverse polarity, overheating, overcharging, overdischarging, short circuit, overload

Leather insert

What is controversial

Many holes for dust collection

Support for resistance from 0.1 Ohm

What could be better

No ribbon for easy battery removal

Only for 18650 batteries

Not quite a “monolithic” battery compartment cover

Total

I can’t say anything particularly bad about the LADON MOD, it’s just a workhorse that will suit most vapers and will completely cover their needs. There are some “rough spots”, for example, in the form of resistance support of “only” 0.1 Ohm, or small problems with battery removal, but after minimal getting used to it, you simply stop paying attention to it, and ultra-low resistance is more needed by fans of mechanics, and not in “tank + board” bundles. The chip’s operation and control are extremely simple, there are no unnecessary bells and whistles (well, except for temperature control). And if it seems to you that the board does not gain power quickly enough, this can be easily fixed by making your own preheat curve. In fact, the internal filling is no different from previously released Battlestar family mods (Mini or Squonker) and has proven its reliability and unpretentiousness. In general, for your money you will get a solid device without an eye-catching design (we simply ignore the rainbow-colored version) with more than decent characteristics.
